O PRAISE the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

    Modern Man's Quest for Perdition

    a sermon

It is very clear that many of the "movers and shakers" of today have decided that forward movement for mankind requires discarding any idea of a "god". They view as ignorant those people still pursuing church and worship. They acknowledge the possibility of that which is infinite but they have neither view nor knowledge of that which is Eternal.

There are really only two types of people on planet Earth:

    1. Those who believe in (into) Almighty God (the Saved), and

    2. Those who do not believe in (into) Almighty God (the unSaved).

(Only one God can be ALL-MIGHTY [Almighty].)

We must all choose. We must choose to believe or not believe. (By not choosing we default to unbelief [because faith is an active, positive embracement of Almighty God]).

It is my responsibility to call you to faith (Saving faith) in Almighty God.

Without faith it is impossible to please God. (Of course, if one does not believe God exists one may have no inclination to want to please Him.) There are those who assume that empirical knowledge of God and His power will automatically lead one to faith in Almighty God. That is not necessarily true. (Judas walked three years with Jesus Christ and still left planet Earth lost because he was the "son of perdition" [John 17:12]).

I fear that there are many in the Christian Church today who have fallen back unto perdition. Thus I call Christians to a living faith in Jesus Christ. A living faith in Jesus Christ is also a Saving faith in Jesus Christ. (A person can be a minister, a bishop, a deacon, a choir member, a missionary, etc. and still be unSaved - - drawn back unto perdition - - [remember, Judas was a preacher]).

The Apostle Paul made mention of those who "draw back unto perdition".

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:37-39 [The Holy Bible {KJV}])

Current philosophy may have caused some "Christians" to draw back unto perdition. The daily bombardment of unGodly declarations may have deceived many "Christians". Thus the pure word of Almighty God may be receiving opposition in church congregations from those unbelievers who have been deceived by the current-day unGodly philosophies. (These unbelievers are "members of the church" but not true members of "The Church".) In other words, they are not Saved. Thus, they were easy prey for the "movers and shakers" who have decided that forward movement for mankind requires discarding any idea of "god".

This is a plight of the Christian Church today (especially in the West). There are disciplines (political, scientific, medical, historical, anthropological, social, cultural, etc.) that want to be "God". Dethroning the True and Living God is their goal. (They will never succeed totally but their current attacks are wreaking havoc on the Christian Church.)

The Apostle Paul alluded to this two thousand years ago. Writing to the church at Thessalonica, he asserted:

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
    3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (II Thessalonians 2:1-4 [The Holy Bible {KJV}])

The "son of perdition" is a "man of sin". Said another way, a "person of perdition" is a "person of sin". People who oppose the word of Almighty God are people of sin. Are you on a "quest for perdition"? In other words, are you willing to discard the word of the Almighty and Eternal God and replace it with the philosophies of mere human and finite man?

    The
great Jew, Peter, along with other great Jewish Apostles were clear in their affirmation of our obligation to Almighty God. They addressed an angry Council of Jewish leaders thusly:

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. (Acts 5:29 [The Holy Bible {KJV}]).

The opposition today is not coming from one group (as those faced by Peter and the other apostles), rather, it is coming from a broad spectrum of races and entities from around the world. It is truly a time for the Christian to contend for the faith (Jude 3).

Faith in Almighty God is absolutely necessary. Without faith it is impossible to please God. This we are told in Hebrews Chapter 11:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. (Hebrews 11:1-2 [The Holy Bible {KJV}])

After telling us what faith is, the writer (under the power of Holy Spirit) goes on to say:

6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 [The Holy Bible {KJV}]).

In the poem, "Not Knowing", Mary Gardiner Brainard says that she would rather walk in the dark with God than to walk alone in the light; she goes on to say that she would rather walk with Him by faith than to walk alone by sight. That is what faith is all about.

Do not allow your life to be wasted, ruined and destroyed by men (and women) of perdition. (The just shall live by faith [from Romans 1:17]). It is your choice - - faith or perdition. Wise men and women choose faith!
